Why They'll Win

If defense does indeed win championships, don't you have to favor the Bruins to win this original six matchup for Lord Stanley's Cup? Not so fast my friends. The Chicago Blackhawks allowed the fewest goals during the condensed regular season and Corey Crawford has had a legitimate break out season in Chicago. It says here though that Tuuka Rask and the way the Bruins play in front of him will propel the Bruins to the title in six games. Rask stopped 134 of 136 shots in the four-game sweep of the stunned Pittsburgh Penguins. Add in the clutch scoring of playoff points leader David Krejci (21 points) and linemate Nathan Horton (17 points) and Boston is just too much. Bruins in 6.

The Bruins defense absolutely humbled the high-scoring Penguins 12-2 in goals in the Eastern Conference finals. Tuukka Rask was unbelievable in goal for Boston. Now The B's take on Corey Crawford and Chicago. The Hawks are loaded with stars. Patrick Kane, Patrick Sharp, Jonathan Toews and Brian Bickell (who's about to get rich in free agency) are talented. I still believe the key to the series will be the forecheck and size of the Bruins giving the Hawks problems. If the series is decided in front of the goal, Boston will win. If Chicago can obtain some space on the ice, their scorers will give the Bruins problems. I think David Krejci, Milan Lucic, Brad Marchand, Nathan Horton and Patrice Bergeron will be too much for Chicago to handle. The Bruins defense, with Zdeno Chara, Dennis Seidenberg, Johnny Boychuck, Andrew Ference and the rookie Torey Krug, will give the Hawks fits trying to score. Rask looks like he's having an easy time of it in goal. Bruins in 6.

The Bruins' confidence is sky-high not that they've won nine of their last 10 games. They're firing on all cylinders and little can distract them from their structure, so they should be able to slow down the Chicago attack. Tuukka Rask should also have a solid enough advantage over Corey Crawford in net. Bruins in 6.

Both teams have rolled to the Final as they are a combined 15-2 in their last 17 games. Chicago and Boston have not met in the playoffs since 1978, a battle of Original Six teams. I love the Bruins' depth with their lines and think they can handle the Blackhawks' speed after sweeping away Pittsburgh. Tuukka Rask has improved in net each and every game in the playoffs. The Bruins are the better defensive team and are more physical as well. They will do just enough to slow down Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Patrick Sharp. Bruins in 7.
